Extra! Extra!
Calling all space enthusiasts! We’ve just launched a brand-new page dedicated to space news, upcoming launches and events, and historic milestones in space exploration.
‘Today In Space’ is designed as a news portal and brings together our favourite space news channels from across the web into one place.
You can also follow our custom Space Calendar and check out our weekly highlights of past and present space happenings, curated by our team of space and astronomy experts.
Check it out here: Today In Space
Space Calendar
Our custom Space Calendar helps us plan our upcoming events at the National Space Centre, but we also think it’s a pretty good resource in its own right. This calendar includes anniversaries in space and space flight history, celestial events such as meteor showers and eclipses, and upcoming rocket launches and space mission milestones.
Events come from space flight history, Sea and Sky’s astronomy calendar, and Spaceflight Now’s list of upcoming rocket launches, among others.
We use this calendar all the time, so it’s regularly curated and updated to reflect new events. And because it’s a public Google calendar you can even add it to your own calendar and never miss a thing.
Any given week has a lot going on, so each week we pick out the highlights and list them in the ‘This Week In Space’ section.
Live From Space
This section includes embedded widgets from our favourite space news sites – Spaceflight Now, Astronomy Picture of the Day, and Spot the Station (an International Space Station tracker customised to your location).
Click on the widgets to see real-time space news, gorgeous images of the cosmos, and updates on the next time the Space Station passes overhead.
Those with keen eyes may have noticed that the current Astronomy Picture of the Day is also displayed as the banner at the top of the page.
Space News From Twitter
Twitter is often the place where space news breaks first. Now you can toggle between some of the top space twitter accounts on the web – NASA, the European Space Agency, the International Space Station, and of course, the National Space Centre – for live space news and upcoming events.
We hope you enjoy this new page and we’d love to hear what you think.
