In a break from our usual space programming, we bring you the exciting news that a member of our Space Communications team has been shortlisted for a Tourism Superstar Award for spreading the joy of space with our visitors each and every day.
Emma Ashley, Space Communications Presenter at the National Space Centre, has been shortlisted for a VisitEngland Tourism Superstar Award 2019!
Tourism Superstar 2019
VisitEngland’s annual Tourism Superstar competition recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry. It is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to England have an unforgettable experience.
Run in conjunction with Visit England’s partner, the Daily Mirror, the campaign champions careers in tourism (for people of all ages) and promotes quality, customer service and excellence within England’s tourism industry.
Emma has been named on a 10 person shortlist for the VisitEngland Awards, with the winner set to be announced during English Tourism Week 2019, 30 March – 7 April.

About Emma
Emma has worked at the National Space Centre in Leicester since 2015. She first worked as part of the ‘Space Crew’ visitor service team, but since 2017 she’s been promoted to the Space Communications presenter team, where she brings exhibitions to life every day through family-friendly talks and planetarium shows about space, engaging science demos, and tours around the galleries.
She has also taken the lead on developing and running activities suitable for visitors with special needs, including tactile tours of the galleries and sensory experiences.
She has an incredible way with people and goes above and beyond every single day to make our visitors feel welcome. She excites them about space through her engaging stories, warm personality, and humour. No question about space is too big or too small for Emma, and if she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll do the research and get back in touch later.
Emma said: “I’m humbled to be shortlisted, it’s a real honour. I work in a fantastic team and this nomination is really a credit to all of us. I love my job, learning about space and meeting new people every day, allowing me the chance to share my passion and expertise for all things space. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, making space accessible to everybody.”
